Sometimes we become so consumed with the details and circumstances of our life that we might just need to take a break from being ourselves. Not super-easy to do, that’s for sure, but if you can pull it off you may find some temporary respite from the claustrophobia of always thinking the same thoughts, always looking out from the same pair of eyes.
So how can you take a much-needed vacation from being yourself?
First let’s clarify that the reason you’re here living the life of the person you are is because you created it to be exactly as it is and there is nothing more important for you to do than live the life of you, the perfect human you happen to be.
This isn’t about escaping the reality you are in or liberating yourself from an inferior, diminished form of being like many spiritual traditions describe a human life to be. There is nowhere else more important for you to be, it can just be a bit of a grind down here as a human. Occasionally we could just use a bit of a vacation from being us. Know what I mean?
Drugs, alcohol, TV, Netflix, sports, video games, doom-scrolling our phones, recreation, vacations to all-inclusive resorts or Disney cruises offer some respite but that stuff can also cause more problems than it solves. Sure, smoking weed and vegging out to some Candy Crush on your phone followed by a plate of nachos is a dope evening of recreation, but there are different hacks you can try as well.
Like perspective.
Shifting your perspective about who you are on a wider, more expansive level can smooth down a lot of the sharp edges we encounter in human life. As an experiment, try the exercise of zooming out and viewing your life from a wider-angle lens, a drone shot from high above the landscape of “you”.
Imagine the entire life you are living as one day in the life of your Soul. Think of every moment you have lived since birth and all the moments to come before you die as all just being part of one complete day in the life of your expanded Soul – that eternal part of you that lives on after you die and was present before you were born into your current form.
There are many terms for this entity – Soul, Oversoul, Higher Self – none of which are entirely accurate from the perspective of this limited reality. But we must refer to it in some way because it’s super-helpful to consider yourself as a being who also exists on other expanded levels beyond the human self you take yourself to be.
The term you use to describe those higher, expanded aspects of yourself isn’t that important as it all comes down to the individual experience we are each having. What does the concept of the Soul / Higher Self mean to you? What relationship do you have to the higher aspects of your own being? That is the most important thing. The terminology we use to talk about it with each other is secondary.
You live multiple lives across many different realities and dimensions, so what is the aspect of you that experiences all of those lives, not just the very specific you that you are in this particular human lifetime?
Think of the human “you” that has experienced all the events of your life through the thousands of distinct days you have lived since birth, through the unique phases of your life, in different places, doing different things each day with different people, feeling different emotions throughout it all. It’s impossible to determine the meaning of your life from just one of those various days out of the thousands you have lived. “Who you are” is based on feeling and insight derived from the entire cumulative experience you have had up to now.
And on the Soul Level, “who you are” is derived from your entire cumulative experience through many different incarnations in physical form – human and otherwise – as well as time spent in between lives in other realms where you processed and integrated the intense experiences you lived out in physicality.
So what does it feel like to be that level of Soul / Higher-Self beingness? It’s definitely “next-level” and unlike the experience of being human that is limited to the events and circumstances of this lifetime. You are programmed to be human right now, so you can’t really know what it’s like to completely be your expanded Higher Self / Soul, but you can access insight from that expanded level anytime you like.
All the wisdom, experience and insight contained in your Higher Self / Soul is available to you anytime you like, because it IS you. You just need to believe it is there and then ask to receive it.
You don’t have to pray or use fancy rituals. The information is not controlled by some other Higher Being or God who will decide if you get to access it after you’ve said certain words in a certain way. It’s your own insight, so the only one you need to ask is yourself.
Getting help from intuitives or psychics can be extremely helpful because the How-To part of accessing that information is tricky at first if you haven’t been practicing those skills your entire life.
Most of us have been trained from birth to believe expanded understanding about who we are and our journey through quantum multi-dimensionality is somehow forbidden knowledge we shouldn’t access. Why that attitude prevails in most of human society is another subject. It is very helpful, however, to overcome the belief that such expanded knowledge and wisdom is somehow unattainable or “not for us”, reserved for beings like Gods who are far greater than ourselves. But you are the Universe In Action, you are Creation Itself, and you have access to all the Universe has to offer in the way of deeper knowing and connection.
All you have to do is ask.
It all starts with the intention and the request for deeper understanding and then seeing where the path leads you and what form such insight comes to you. You might just end up with some insight that takes the edge off being human and the task of carrying around a physical-mental-emotional body filled with aches and pains, worries and fears, anxieties and neurosis.
In my own life, the perspective of the wide-angle drone shot of my reality has helped bring a deep inner peace into my system, an energy field that wasn’t able to express itself so clearly in the past when my only point-of-view was through the lens of my limited, human self and its worried mind.
If I am an eternal being who lives many lives, many days in my overall Soul Lifetime – how important is one day/one life really? If I have one lousy day in my life, as often happens around here, how much does it really impact my overall life journey? I can shake that off, no problem.
So if things go a little sideways in my overall life, how much of an impact does that really have on my overall soul journey? It’s only one life.
I’m not encouraging a don’t-give-a-shit attitude, because it’s important to be the human you are and live the life you are living the best you can. But from the perspective of your Soul having lived thousands of lives with thousands more to come, this one particular life might not be as important as you think, or not in the way you think it’s important.
Your Soul / Higher Self is deriving vital learning and growth from all the aspects of your life, not just the parts that you determine to be successful. All of that failure, inadequacy, anxiety, fear and low self-esteem we have in the mix is also rich experience for the Soul / Higher Self. So is being bored and not knowing wtf to do today, or smoking weed, playing Candy Crush and then having some nachos.
The grandiose and the mundane, the highs and lows, successes and failures, things you do well and the stuff you suck at, all provide fabulous learning for you on the expanded Soul Level. Sure, we are ambitious and want things in life to go well all the time, but a lot of it can be an epic fail, or somewhere in-between.
From the wide-angle drone shot perspective of life across many different lifetimes, we definitely don’t need to get too cranked about the smaller-level stuff that we get really absorbed in as humans. Bigger, deep issues of your life are important to focus on as that’s what we are here to do. Your order getting messed up at the drive-thru window is not in that category.
And if you practice noticing what you are getting all cranked about in life and give it a number from one to ten of how important that actually is in the grand scheme of things, you might find yourself getting cranked about circumstances and things in your life that aren’t really that high on the importance scale. Getting cranked about insignificant things distracts us from dealing with the deeper, more important things in our life that will actually benefit your soul journey if you give it some attention.
Like processing past experiences in a healthy way so that residue doesn’t plague us too much going forward, or how we can be unconditionally loving to the people in our lives.
We don’t take anything with us when we leave this life except the memories of our experiences and the meaning that we ascribe to them. That is what we process and integrate into our Soul / Higher Self as skills and wisdom we take with us moving forward into other lifetimes and the eternal journey of being that we are on.
Because you are so much more than this human you take yourself to be, and that’s a good thing. That perspective doesn’t diminish the importance of being you here and now, but it might offer some insight into what part of that journey is really, really important.
Like nachos, cause nachos frickin’ rule.
